The tragic string of storm-related disasters at outdoor concerts this summer has apparently made an impression on Kenny Chesney, who isn't taking any chances with the last weekend of his Goin' Coastal tour. Due to a hurricane warning affecting his August 28 show in Foxboro, Massachusetts, Chesney has decided to move the date up two days for safety's sake.
The Sunday show at Foxboro's Gillette Stadium will now be held on Friday the 26th. Moving the date was a "difficult decision," according to the show's promoter.
However, Chesney himself is adamant that safety comes first. "I want the
last weekend of the Goin' Coastal tour to be a great experience for everybody," he said in a statement. "But I also want it to be the safest experience for everyone."
The U.S. National Hurricane Center forecasted that hurricane-level storms may occur in the New England area on the 28th. There will be no show held at Gillette Stadium that day.
If you have a ticket for Sunday, it will be honored on Friday. The lineup and set times will remain the same as before. Ticketholders who are unable to attend on the new date will be offered a refund at point of purchase.
Chesney's caution is wise in the light of the recent stage collapse in Indiana immediately preceding Sugarland's set that killed seven people. Also, last month at the Ottawa Bluesfest, Cheap Trick and the Court Yard Hounds witnessed a stage collapse before their eyes. Earlier this month, rock band the Flaming Lips were forced to cancel their show when a storm brought down a lighting rig.
